A REPORT ON ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2023
On 9th December, 2023, St.Peter’s organised its highly anticipated Annual Sports Day in the spacious playground of ASP stadium. The sports day featured a diverse range of events, including track and field, team sports, and individual challenges. Field events were conducted in the school premises prior to the Annual Sports Day in order to save time. Students of various classes participated in the sports day. Annual Sports Day was conducted in two halves on 09/2/23. The first half began from 9.00am and the students from Pre-Nursery to class IV participated in the various inter house sports events. Prior arrangements of the day were made one day before for the events to take place. A large temporary sitting arena was constructed for the parents and students to sit and enjoy the day. Before the events of the day began, the Principal of St. Peter’s school, Mr. John Paramata officially welcomed everyone in the stadium. The esteemed guests who graced the Annual Sports Day in the first half were First lady of Diocese of Durgapur, Mrs. Sarika Khimla, Principal of St. Michael school, Mr. Charles Nycss, Chaplin of St.Peter’s school , Rev Rabindranath Ray, Secretary of Diocese , Rev. Samuel Halder, Treasurer of Diocese Mr. Hemant Marandi and James Mathew from St. Michael school. The Annual Sports Day commenced with an energetic opening ceremony, where participants and spectators alike were treated to a vibrant display of drill, music and dance. The First Lady of Diocese, Mrs. Sarika Khimla declared the Annual Sports meet open, by releasing the balloons into the sky. Kindergarten kids participated in fun games like Bubble Bees, Crazy Toads and Fun with Lemon etc followed by 50 metres flat race and inter house relay race by boys and girls of Classes II to IV The Second Half of The Annual Sports Day began at 11.30 am. The guests of honour who graced the event in the second half were Bishop of Diocese of Durgapur and Chairman of St. Peter’s school, Rt. Rev. Sameer Issac Khimla, Secretary of St. Peter’s school, Mr. Sandipan Sinha, Principal of Bidhan School, Mr. Louis Lippert and a sports Personnel who is a Football coach, Mr. Ratan Maity. The Annual Sports Day commenced with a welcome dance and an inspiring opening ceremony, where students of the four houses paraded proudly, waving flags and displaying their team colours. Signifying the traditional initiation of the Sports Day, the senior students carried out the torch relay and one of them lighted the Lamp that ignited the passion and strength in every sportsperson's heart followed by an Oath-taking ceremony. The Chairman and Bishop, Rt. Rev Sameer Issac Khimla then hoisted the school flag and declared the sports meet open by releasing the balloons into the air. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as the athletes prepared to showcase their skills and compete for honours. The venue was a spectacle to behold, adorned with banners and filled with enthusiastic supporters, creating an electric atmosphere that set the stage for an extraordinary day of sports. The enthusiasm was palpable as the athletes geared up for a day of intense competition. After the march past, the students of the four different houses competed against each other in sports events like relay races, 50 metres 100 metres, 200 metres 400 metres race and Tug-of-War. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the track events, where athletes showcased their speed, agility, and endurance. The four houses of the school cheered for their respective members. Apart from the non-participating students, the parents too cheered for their children. The Principal and the respective esteemed guests gave away prizes to the participants. Each of the winners were given a medal and a certificate. Points were given to the four houses depending on the performance of their representatives in the event. Events for parents were also held and enthusiastic parents took part in it. The events of the day came to an end with the Principal declaring the Best March Past of the day and Best House in all the Sports events after tabulating the house points. In the end, the Principal thanked everyone for their presence and support, and congratulated the students for their exceptional performances and also the teachers for their discharging their respective duties on Sports Day. The sports day was a resounding success, igniting passion and inspiring young athletes to pursue their sporting dreams. It showcased the incredible talent, discipline, and sportsmanship of the participants. The winning team celebrated their victory with great joy and sportsmanship, acknowledging the efforts of their opponents. As the day ended, the resounding cheers and smiles on the faces of athletes and spectators reflected the collective joy and appreciation for the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement.
INTER HOUSE BADMINTON TOURNAMENT 2024
Stamina and agility are the key words associated with badminton and that is what our players displayed during the INTER HOUSE BADMINTON TOURNAMENT 2024. The match began with a lot of enthusiasm displayed not only by the players but also the spectators. Their relaxed and flexible grips, the shuttle flights and their avoiding the wobbling of the shuttle in flight kept us all awestruck. Badminton is quite a workout for the mind. The game requires constant thinking and planning and that is what we all could witness whilst they played. The inter house badminton tournament was held in the month of June. There are two categories. In each category students were played very well. In the junior category ( Boys')  Souvik Biswas of cl 6 C, Green house defeated Suryadeep Chatterjee of cl 5 A , Blue House. In the Junior category (girls) Aishani Roy of cl 5 B , gold house defeated Aditi Mondal of 6 B, Red house . In the senior category (Boys) Harry Hazra of cl 10 B, Blue House defeated Abhee Singh of cl 10 A , Red house. In the senior category ( girls) Chitra Layek of 10 B Green house defeated Tiyasha Mondal of 9 , Gold house.
INTER HOUSE KHO KHO TOURNAMENT 2024
Sports are generally liked by almost all the children whether girls or boys. Sports play a great role in improving and maintaining the health and fitness, improving mental skills and concentration level as well as social and communication skills.An Inter House Kho Kho competition was held on 14/6/24 in the school campus. It was a delight to watch them playing with a team spirit. Congratulations to the winner - GREEN HOUSE and Runner up - BLUE HOUSE.Inter house kho kho tournament which was held in the month of June. Nearly 48 children participated in this tournament .Each house played very well. But Green House was the best team. They defeated Blue House in the finals.
INTER HOUSE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 2024
Participation in sport has been shown to have multiple physical, social and psychological benefits for learners of all ages. Football in particular can improve physical and mental health, well-being and reduce the chance of various diseases. An Inter-House Football Tournament for the students of classes 4 - 12 in the school . The participants under the able guidance of Mr. Satyajit Biswas, participated enthusiastically and exhibited excellent sportsmanship.
